The Child Care Resource and Referral ~ Metro (CCR&R) Training Department offers approximately 35 classes per quarter to all who are interested in early childhood issues and education. Classes cover a wide variety of topics including introductory child development, starting and running a child care business, and working with families and specific age groups of children. All classes focus on improving the quality of care for all children and increasing knowledge for all child care providers.

Child Care Training Registry
On the Training Registry you can view classes that you have already taken from CCR&R, classes that you are signed up for, a training calendar and your Career Ladder levels, as well as when your next Professional Development Award is due.
How to Register for a Make Up Session
- Participants can enroll in up to two courses per quarter with up to two make up sessions per class. If more than two sessions need to be made up you will have to register for the full class and repay for the course.
- View your transcript or certificates to see which class you need to make up in order to complete the class.
- View the current Class Schedule to see if and when the class is being offered.
- Complete the Registration Form found in the newsletter or by clicking on the Registration Form link. Indicate which class you are enrolling in and circle the date of the session you are making up. Pleae make sure to sign the Code of Conduct and mail it in with the Registration form.
- Mail the form and Code of Conduct to the address indicated on the Registration Form. *Please remember to write down your schedule before mailing. When a class is full the participant will be notified by mail with a refund or voucher included. When an employer pays for more than one participant, and a class is full, the notification and refund will be sent to party who issued the check or money order.
Canceling a Class
Pre-paid classes are non-refundable; however, if you are unable to attend a class you are registered for, call at least two days before the start of the first session of class. If CCR&R~Metro can fill your slot we will mail you a credit voucher, which can be used for another class. You can reach the Training Department at 801-326-4403.
If you can attend at least half of the sessions in a course you may enroll for make-up of no cost at a later date. In order to receive credit and or materials for a session, a participant must attend the whole session. All handouts and materials will only be distributed to those in attendance of the session.
Professional Development Award Information
The Professional Development Award System is a voluntary statewide professional development program for early childhood educators in a child care setting. The goal of this award is to increase the quality of child care by caregivers receiving ongoing education and training. The program also will move caregivers up on the Career Ladder and reward longevity in the field.
Eligible caregivers completing the requirements, and who maintain a minimum of ten hours of approved training per year, will receive a yearly cash bonus. Caregivers who choose to get a Level 4 or higher, and who remain in the field for 5 years or more, will get a substantial increase in award amount.
The classes offered through CCR&R~Metro are designed and approved by the Child Care Professional Development Institute (CCPDI). Becoming a Host Site for CCR & R Classes
The requirements for hosting CCR&R~Metro courses are as follows:
- Sign an agreement contract.
- Provide a working TV & VCR.
- Provide Adult tables & chairs for 30 adult participants.
- Provide a contact to be available 45 minutes prior to the start of the training class.
- Set up & take down tables & chairs (tables & chairs need to be set up 45 minutes before the start of class).
- Provide enough parking for up to 30 cars.
In exchange for hosting the training class the center will be given 2 free class slots for their staff.

Classroom Expections
In an effort to provide a safe, productive, and comfortable learning environment CCR&R distributes an outline of classroom expectations, entitled Code of Conduct, with each registration form. This outline is treated as a contract which all class participants must sign in order to register and attend CCR&R classes.

CCR & R Metro Class Cancellation Due to Weather or Disaster Policy
- Child Care Resource & Referral ~ Metro will only cancel a class due to extreme weather, disaster or any other safety emergency situations.
- If classes are cancelled there will be a recording in our phone system at 801-326-4403 stating that classes have been cancelled. The decision to cancel classes and the recording will be changed at 4:00 pm for weekday classes. For Saturday classes participants should call at 7:30am Saturday morning. The Trainer will be notified of the decision and an attempt to notify the class participants by telephone to tell them when a class is cancelled will be made by the Training Department and the Trainer. The decision will not be made before 4:00 pm for weekday classes or before 7:30am for Saturday classes. Cancelled sessions of training class will be rescheduled on Fridays. The participants will be notified when the make up session for a cancelled class will be held.
Training Department Biographies
Carla Jones, Training Consultant: Carla has been with CCR&R~Metro since June 2003. She has a bachelor’s degree in Business Information Systems with an emphasis in Office Systems Management from USU. She says, “Knowing that through me, people are connecting with training to increase their knowledge to improve the lives of children.” Outside of work she loves spending time with her family, running, and reading novels.
Sandy Craft, Training Coordinator: Sandy has an Associates degree in Early Childhood Development from SLCC & a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Westminster College. She has 19 years experience working directly with children and families as an early childhood educator. Sandy came on board as the CCR&R Metro Training Coordinator in January 2007. She enjoys helping child care providers and families improve the quality of child care for children in their communities.
