Become an Intern
If you are interested in completing an internship with Welcome Baby, please read the following information and submit an application.
Welcome Baby is a home visitation program sponsored by the United Way of Utah County. We train volunteers to visit new parents in our community. Volunteers visit their families once a month and act as a support during the transition to parenthood by teaching about infant development, health and safety, and connecting parents into community resources. Families receive a free gift donated by someone in the community for their baby, a “Keeping Your Baby Healthy” guide and monthly development information that complements the information in the guide.
If you are interested in an internship, we require a full semester commitment. You must attend our training and be willing to be trained in office prior to the start of the semester. This will help you to be able to start working immediately during your internship semester. Your internship will include home visits, community outreach, training, and administrative duties.
The application/training process is the same for Utah Valley University, Brigham Young University, and University of Utah students. If you receive the internship, you will attend a three-hour training that includes the following topics: child development, red flags, attachment bonding, infant cues, and how to conduct an effective home-visit. You will also be required to purchase our training manuals ($25), pass a criminal background check, observe a home-visit, complete five hours of training in the office prior to the semester beginning, and have all reference letters sent to us.
Once you have submitted your application, we will contact you to schedule further interviewing with our Early Childhood Initiative Manager. If you have any questions, please contact us at 801-326-4410.
